Don L. Ellis Selected as Southeast Louisiana Council's New Scout Executive

Steve Hemperley, Council President of the Southeast Louisiana Council is pleased to announce the selection of Don L. Ellis as our new Scout Executive. Don will begin his new position effective March 1, 2010.

Don will be joining us after serving for four years as Scout Executive of the Stonewall Jackson Area Council headquartered in Waynesboro, Virginia.

Don began his Scouting career as an Associate District Executive in Raleigh, NC in 1979. He has served in various professional positions for more than 30 years:

  • Senior District Scout Executive in Orlando, Florida
  • Senior District Scout Executive in Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Field Director in Charlotte, North Carolina
  • Director of Field Service in Little Rock, Arkansas
  • Finance Director in Raleigh, North Carolina
  • Development Director in Raleigh, North Carolina

He is a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow. Don has served on several regional and national committees during his 30 year tenure with the Boy Scouts of America and has an extensive background in all phases of Scouting.

His wife Daphne has one son, Brandon. Brandon’s wife’s name is Aleisha and they have three children; Arin McKenzie – 10 months, Michael – 3 ˝ years old and Amber – 9 years old.

Please welcome Don and Daphne to the Scouting family of the Southeast Louisiana Council.

These deserving award recipients, along with the 2009 John Peper Class of Eagle Scouts and a recipient of both the Venturing Gold and Silver Awards will be honored at the Council Recognition Banquet scheduled for March 11, 2010 at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner at 7:00 p.m.  We hope you will take this opportunity to be a part of the banquet and either sponsor one of the Eagle Scouts or Award Recipients or purchase tickets or a whole table with your unit to honor these individuals on that evening.

Congratulations to these volunteers and to these very deserving youth members!
