Dear Scouters of the Southeast Louisiana Council:

I am pleased to begin serving as your new Scout Executive effective Monday March 1, 2010. During the next several months, I hope to get to know you and learn more about the great Scouting programs of the Southeast Louisiana Council.

During my tenure as a professional Scouter for the past 30 years, I have been motivated by working to ensure our “Unit Leaders” are given the District and Council support to provide a fun, exciting and dynamic program for the young people we serve.

Under the leadership of Council President Steve Hemperley and Tony Faucheaux, Council Commissioner, that proud tradition of delivering a “quality scouting program” will continue.

Working with members of our Executive Board, District level volunteers, professional/ office support staff and camp rangers, we will continue to focus on some key strategic objectives that will ensure a great Scouting program during 2010 and beyond:

  • Create opportunities for every family to join the Scouting programs of the Southeast Louisiana Council.
  • Create opportunities to “tell our Scouting story” to those who are not registered members of the Boy Scouts of America.
  • Grow all sources of revenue.
  • Increase the number of Centennial Quality Units.
  • Every District achieves the BSA’s Centennial Quality District Award annually.
  • Achieve the BSA’s Centennial Quality Council Award Annually.
  • Ensure that every young person has a “trained leader”.
  • Provide outstanding programs that attract and retain youth and families.
  • Provide outstanding summer program activities and camping facilities for our registered youth and adult volunteers.
  • Achieve a balanced operating budget annually.

I look forward to meeting everyone during our upcoming Council Annual Recognition Dinner on March 11 as we recognize our 2009 Class of Silver Beavers, 2009 Silver Pelican Recipient and the 2009 recipient of the Young American Award.

My wife, Daphne will be arriving later during March and looks forward to getting to know everyone.

Thank you in advance for your dedication and tireless efforts to ensure great Scouting programs in the 11 parishes of the Southeast Louisiana Council.

Don Ellis
Scout Executive/CEO
