  • Powder Horn Training Scheduled for 2017! Register Today!
The Powder Horn course is designed to help the troop, team, or crew by exposing older Scouts, Venturers, and adult leaders to safely conducted outdoor/high-adventure activities of a fun and challenging nature. The course provides an introduction to the resources needed to successfully lead youth through a program of outdoor adventure and is based upon giving participants an exposure to some outdoor/high-adventure activities. The course presenters are expert consultants, from inside and outside of Scouting, in each outdoor high adventure activity. It is not a certification event. It is for any youth or adult interested in experiencing a unit-level, high-adventure program.
  • 100% Trained Leader Plan - Please Read!
In May of this year our executive board voted in favor of moving our council to a 100 percent leader trained council. This post is a timeline for the implementation of this process.
  • Campmaster Program Needs Volunteers-Next Training at Winter Camp
Want to spend a relaxing weekend at Camp Salmen while giving back to the Council? Become a Campmaster! The Campmaster Corps serves as a liaison between Council and units camping by checking units in and out of camp and ensuring that their weekend is as trouble-free as possible. Make it a family affair, your family is welcome to join you! Campmasters (and their families) stay in a cabin, eliminating the need to pitch tents. There will be a training for Campmasters at Salmen Scout Reservation on Wednesday, December 28 at 10:00am at the shop in the front of camp. There will be a brief lecture followed by a walk around camp. Please contact Christopher Blohm at vbarcampmaster@gmail.com if you plan to attend so that a head-count can be estimated.
  • Youth Protection Now Required for All Adult Registrations
All Louisiana Boy Scouts of America volunteers are required by Louisiana State Law to undergo the BSA Youth Protection Training. Failure to report abuse or neglect could result in thousands of dollars in fines and/or imprisonment with or without hard labor. For more information on how to take Youth Protection Training click here.
